Indy July 5th

Postby XTR_CBR on Mon Jun 28, 2010 9:21 pm

Rode Indy tonight and to say it is overgrown is an understatement...the dog even got caught in the excess wild growing out there. So far in the month of June, it has rained on 16 days which accounts for the abundance of overgrowth.

I would like to organize a work day where everyone can bring a brush cutter or leaf blower and we can break off into groups and knock the weeds out in one evening, even if you don't have a brush cutter, we can still use your help!

The problem is that we have to have an approved permit from the park district and I only want to go to the trouble of getting that if I know people are going to be able to show up and help. So if you can make it Monday July 5th at 5:00 at the upper parking lot please post here soon.

Thanks,
Tony

I might have family in town. If not, then I will be there.

I'll do my best to make it, but I'm skeptical (at best), that I'll be able to make it due to family committments.

Sure! Our PAMBA brush cutters are just straight shaft powerful weed-eaters, so if you have a regular weed-eater you would like to bring, that would work. I am trying to line up a few leaf blowers so after we clear off the trails we don't have a bunch of debris left on them.

See you Monday!

We got the permit and everything is ready to go.

Weather tomorrow is a 50% chance, but we will go unless it is pouring at the beginning of trailcare.

Since you may be running a brush cutter or weed eater, make sure you wear long sleeves and pants, and if you have a pair of safety glasses please bring them too.

We will be covering a lot of trail, so make sure to bring plenty of water, if you have a camelbak I would recommend bringing that.

See you tomorrow!

3.5 gallons of gas, 6 brush cutters and 3 leaf blowers is what it took to get this place back under control.

Huge thanks to the operators of the equipment in 90+ degree weather. I would say about 85% of the park is in awesome shape.

If you see any of these guys out on the trail, make sure you give them a big thanks:
Mike Staub
Mike Howard
Mike Antoninni
Nick Perrow
Bob Grace
Tim McGrath
Andy Sullivan
Carrie Kerr
Brian Fore
Randy Reliford

We even started clearing out the old abondanded trail just before the field opening (the one that takes you back to the big fire road bridge).
